Summary

Completed in the Spring of 2024, the Enso Zen Apartments project in Denver, Colorado serves as a premier example of technical excellence in decorative concrete.  Colorado Hardscapes, a specialized Bomanite Licensed Contractor, installed 3,769 square feet of Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems to create a serene and modern Zen garden.  This installation highlights the sophisticated integration of stainless-steel elements and the meticulous jointing required to transform a narrow amenity deck into a high-end architectural landmark.

Navigating the Design Challenge: Engineering for Restricted Spaces

The primary logistical difficulty at the Enso Zen Apartments involved the installation of high-end finishes on an especially narrow amenity deck.  Access to such elevated decks is rarely ideal, and the restricted footprint made maneuvering heavy equipment and specialized materials particularly difficult for the installation team.

To preserve the architectural beauty and modern ambiance of the design, the team undertook a site-specific redesign of the jointing layout.  This engineering adjustment ensured that linear sawcuts remained perfectly aligned across the entire 3,769-square-foot area.  By solving these alignment challenges, the team delivered an aesthetically cohesive outdoor space that reflects the precision required in modern AEC (Architects, Engineers, and Contractors) projects.

Artisanal Precision: Integrating Stainless Steel Inlays

A centerpiece of the project is the stainless-steel inlay of the apartment logo, which was meticulously integrated into the decorative concrete.  This high-end detail required precise coordination and placement to ensure a flawless execution.  The successful integration of metal within the concrete necessitated:

  • Precise Timing: The inlay must be set at the exact moment the concrete reaches the necessary consistency for a permanent bond.
  • Exact Alignment: The logo serves as a focal point, demanding a seamless integration with the surrounding linear sawcuts.
  • Expert Craftsmanship: Such technical difficulty underscores the “Bomanite Distinction,” where artisanal skill meets engineering precision.

The developer, Weins Development Group, selected these custom design elements after reviewing Bomanite Design Center mockups, ensuring the final installation mirrored the initial vision for a serene, one-of-a-kind sanctuary.

The Bomanite Distinction: Performance of Bomanite Sandscape® Systems

The project utilized two primary finishes: 1,602 square feet of Bomanite Sandscape Refined in the modern dark color “Bomanite Black Diamond” and 2,167 square feet of Bomanite Sandscape® Texture in “Bomanite Capitol Hill”.  These Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Systems are installed exclusively by a network of specialized, licensed contractors to ensure technical accuracy and long-term ROI. Bomanite Sandscape® Texture provides a natural, sand-washed appearance with a consistent, slip-resistant surface that is ideal for high-traffic residential amenity decks.  Bomanite Sandscape Refined offers an even more sophisticated, monolithic look by utilizing finer aggregate exposure and specialized binders, allowing for deep, tactile colors like “Bomanite Black Diamond” that resist fading and wear.  Both systems provide property owners with a low-maintenance, custom-engineered solution that enhances the overall Zen-inspired aesthetic while delivering superior durability compared to standard concrete.
